10 Mistakes to Avoid

After being in the wedding industry for over 20 years, there are lots of great ideas and guidance we can give you. There are also some things we'd encourage you NOT to do. We're not knocking anyone who does choose to do these 10 things below, but generally they don't result in the best outcomes. Whatever your thoughts or situation though, we're here to work WITH you, help you stress less, and help you celebrate more lifetime moments.

  1. Hiring Friends & Family. Unless they’re professionals, be cautious. It could negatively impact your wedding/event, and your relationships.

  2. Skipping pre-wedding vendor meetings. From hair trials to how you’re introduced, there’s only one chance to get things right, so be sure to meet with pros in advance to prep the final presentation & make sure you like everything.

  3. No Plan B. Most commonly this is going to be a rain plan for outdoor events, but whatever the case may be, don’t skip having a backup plan for relevant areas.

  4. No shot list for photographer. Take time to write down the pictures you really want. Not only will they not get missed, but your photographer can plan when is best to get them.

  5. No mics for ceremony. If you have more than 100 people/5 rows, you’ll want mics so your guests can here the ceremony & your vows.

  6. Big time gap between ceremony & reception. If it’s unavoidable, be sure to find ways to keep your guests engaged.

  7. Cramming your timeline. You’ve built up to this day, you want to enjoy it. With so many moving parts & people, things could take longer than expected, so be gracious with time.

  8. Too long of a day. While you don’t want to cram your day, you also don’t want it to be too long & lose excitement. 5-6 hours is an average timeframe for ceremony & reception.

  9. Making it “open-mic” for toasts. This can result in both stories you don’t want told and less time for socializing and dancing.

  10. Not scheduling time for yourself. It’s a long (fun) day with several moving parts, so make sure to take time to eat, find a quiet moment with your partner, connect with those who matter most, and step back to take it all in at some point.
