10 Essential Wedding Tips
We often get asked what are some general wedding tips that aren't DJ specific. So after executing thousands of events in our career, here are 10 essential wedding tips we've put together for you. They're all incredibly important to the success of your wedding…and helping you Stress Less & Celebrate More from start to finish.
Find a way to stay organized. Whether it’s a binder, app, you name it – finding a way to stay organized will be a huge help.
Set an estimated guest count first. That affects your venue, food, layout, and so much else.
Write down a list of what matters most to you, then hire & budget from there. This includes your goals vs. what your family and guests will enjoy. Remember, this is your day. Your goals will dictate everything that follows.
Don’t max out your budget. Leave 5-10% for surprise expenses. If they don’t ever happen, you’ve either saved money or can get something extra!
Hire help. This is not the day for DIY, at least for major areas. We absolutely encourage personalization, but for a number of areas – hire pros. One, because it’s your day to enjoy and not work. And two, because pros with experience know what to do, and what not to do.
As you hire pros, use reviews & referrals to start, but make sure to connect with them yourself & choose those you’re comfortable with. That’ll make your day more enjoyable, and successful.
Get contracts for everyone you hire and review them. Ask questions for anything you’re unclear about before signing. This is not something you plan regularly, so it’s normal to ask questions.
Be generous with your timeline. There are many moving parts & people involved on wedding days, so it’s better to error on things taking more time than less. You don’t want to feel rushed.
For the ceremony, if you have more than 100 people or 5 rows, consider having mics so the officiant, readers and especially your vows can be heard by everyone.
For the music and timeline of events, there is a place for everything. Music, people, stories, personalization – it can all be incorporated based on budget, goals, setup & execution. Have those discussions with your venue staff, planner & DJ/MC, as those are the primary people executing the plan on the day of.
***Bonus Tip: Schedule time during both planning AND the wedding day, to pause and take things in. Things fly by so fast. Find ways to slow down, breathe it in, and embrace the moments together.
